Cool Tip for a Hot Summer

Can we talk about water?

Every summer health experts advise drinking plenty of water. Do you follow their advice? Noooo! According to the January 1997 Alternatives newsletter,"the average person in this country consumes over 50 gallons of soft drinks a year, while only drinking 40 gallons of water."

For optimal health, especially if you're involved in an exercise program, you need an 8-oz glass of water for every hours you're awake. Optimum water consumption is a great preventative for ulcers, arthritis, high blood pressure, urinary tract disease, and constipation. So drink up.

When you're exercising, be sure to drink before, during, and after the exercise.

Drinking flushes out waste material; rehydrates your skin, muscles tissue, and vertebrae; lubricates joints; and maintains body temperature. The higher the temperature, the more water you should consume to prevent dehydration, especially during summer heat waves. Add fresh fruit such as oranges or lemons for taste and enjoy!
