Hospice massage therapy is about life—living each day to its fullest, even in the face of a life-limiting illness! Hospice massage at Massage Therapy of Oak Park is a compassionate, patient-centered and therapeutic approach to medical care and support for patients and families facing end-of-life issues. Patients who experience massage in conjunction with other treatments have reported a lessening of pain and an overall feeling of calm and relaxation. In recent years, massage therapy has been integrated into palliative cancer treatment programs, including those for patients battling mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer that occurs in the lining of the lungs and abdomen. We can help maintain quality of life and provide physical comfort, as well as emotional and spiritual support, for both the patient and his or her family. At Massage Therapy of Oak Park, our therapists have helped many clients through the final phases of life. We feel there is no greater gift than to ease the pain and suffering of an individual and his or her family as they navigate the process of letting go. Care can be provided in the home, a long-term care/assisted living facility or in a hospital/hospice setting. Benefits of Hospice Massage TherapyWhile massage is not a curative treatment option, when combined with traditional cancer treatment methods like chemotherapy, it can be an integral part of a patient’s healing plan and help:
