Therapist Rick Halle-Podell is quoted under the section entitled "5 PM - De-stress in the Afternoon." The article suggests that family members give each other foot massages and gives advice on the proper technique. Halle-Podell is quoted as saying, "This is the way for the whole family to make emotional connections and give time and attention to one another expressing love." Donaldson writes that Halle-Podell "often massages his 3-year-old son as they watch television together...'Massage is another way to communicate, you're sending a nice message with your hands,' " Halle-Podell said. |

This article, in our home town newspaper, featured our grand reopening. It said that Massage Therapy of Oak Park is celebrating the grand opening of its new space and five years of serving the Oak Park community. The celebration includes a BBQ, free chair massage and drumming circle.
Massage Therapy of Oak Park is a unique business focused on relaxation, stress relief and pain reduction. Clients walk through a wild flower garden to a separate entrance at the back of the owner's house where they enter a soothing, professional massage therapy practice. In the summer month's clients are likely to leave their treatment with flowers or organic vegetables from Rick's garden.

Massage Therapy gaining popularity in...
by Cynthia Cooney,
November 3, 1999
In this feature article about "massage in the '90's," reports on the observance of National Massage Therapy Awareness Week. "Several local massage therapists took time out...offering free stress-reducing massages at the Health and Fitness Center at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park." Cooney quoted Rick Halle-Podell, an Oak Park massage therapist as saying "our purpose is to promote individual health...getting massages can contribute a lot to preventative health care."
Cooney later quotes Halle-Podell as saying "The main benefit of massage is that it supports the body's own healing process and helps relieve stress... I feel a major part of my job is to help people with their own healing process."
Cooney writes that Halle-Podell "works in conjunction with physical therapists, doctors and nutritionists to improve clients' well-being." She writes that Halle-Podell's "clients at Massage Therapy of Oak Park... come in before or after surgery for treatment or direction about beneficial exercises."
Cooney quotes statistics from the AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) that say that "54% of primary care physicians in the US say they would 'encourage their patients to pursue massage therapy as a complement to medical treatment.' "
Later in the article, Cooney quotesHalle-Podell as saying that "if a person simply becomes aware of body positions, such as the way he or she sits at a desk or computer, it can lead to changes that will alleviate pain and discomfort."

Rick Halle-Podell was featured on the AMTA student recruitment video speaking about the profession of Massage Therapy and the benefits of being associated with a reputable professional association.
